Diwali 2011 could not have got much better with 3 big releases i have seen. SRK's Ra.One featuring our beloved Chitti, Suriya's 7 Aum Arivu and ofcourse our Mass hero Ilayathalapathy Vijay's Velayudham. With these 3 releases the Tamil movies buffs were left with lot of choices as to which movie to watch first. Ra.One might not have been in the list of many (almost everyone) if SRK had not casted Chitti (our Rajni Sir) in it. Though it was a Cameo role for SuperStar which had just 1 minute of his appearance, let me tell you, I would not mind watching the whole movie just to see him once on screen. He is always and will be the best entertainer of all times.
As always, Tamil Film industry has been a very big contributor in the entertainment world. With Diwali, we Tamilians had a lot to celebrate. 2 big movies out released with loads of expectations in our mind as to how different will these be.
7 Aum Arivu - This movie is directed by AR Murugadoss (Ghajini Fame) and produced by Red Gaint Movies and ofcourse distributed and released by none other than Sun Pictures. Movie has been under limelight for over a year now and people have been speculating a lot about what would it be. There were instances where the movie was also believed to a remake of M. Night Shyamalan a.k.a Manoj Nelliyattu Shyamalan's "6th Sense". All these predictions were put to rest when the trailer of the movie was released. The movie is about explaining how advanced science and technology was ages back and what we see and experience now is just a replication of what our forefathers had seen and predicted a millenium back. Movie also talks about the greatness of Prince from South Indian pallava dynasty by name Bodhidharma who left his worldy pleasures and became a buddhist monk and travelled to china and happens to the leading patriarch and transmitter of zen. He was the main reason why Kung-Fu is now practiced in Shaolin temples across the world. He is considered to be the "GURU" of Kung-Fu, the oldest form of martial arts. 7 AUm arivu also speaks about the spread of Biological warfare (which might happen in future). Swine flu being a wonderful example. We never knew how Swine flu started, It never had a history, neither did any terrorist organisation take responsibility in spreading it.
This movie is indeed a teaser to your brain and makes you think. Movie concludes by saying, we Indians are no way inferior and what we follow as a tradition and blind belief has a lot of scientific reasons behind it. AR murugadoss has done a wonderful job in getting all this into a movie and ofcourse Suriya has delivered what he is capable of.... A stunning performance. :-)
Velayudham - What can i say about this? Ilayathalapathy Vijay Starrer. VIjay has had a series of flops in the recent times and this movie must and should be a comeback for him. His Fans were eagerly waiting for a movie which can be watched full and not walk out of theatre halfway through. Unfortunately, this is exactly what it has been every since Azhagiya Tamil Magan. In between, Vettaikaran was one watchable movie.
velayudham is directed by M.Raja ( Jayam movie fame) . This director needs a special mention, He has directed 6 movies prior to Velayudham and only one movie has a mixed response and rest all were box office success. All his movies were remade from telugu and stars his younger sibling Ravi (Jayam Ravi). Velayudham happens to be his M Raja's 7th Movie and this time, he managed to loop in Vijay for the lead role. I am not able to think of Jayam Ravi for this role. Never!!
This movie suits Vijay's badge well. Vijay, Unlike Suriya is not an artist. He is an actor. He can just do the role given to him and cannot fit into a character like Suriya. I am sorry Vijay fans, Thats the fact.
Speaking more about this movie, there is no history or geography in here, its a Masala flick. The movie revolves around a very caring and fun loving brother (vijay) who does anything for his sister's happiness. He is a villager who comes to the city to get his money back from a chit fund where he saved for his sister's marriage. While he arrives, there is already a buff going around in the name of Velayudham. This fictious character is known to punish the evils of the society. Apparently, Vijay's name is also Velayudham. What a co-Incidence!!! After a few incidences of cheating and killing of public by terrorists, the actual velayudham from a small village in Tamilnadu, takes up the role of Velayudham the superhero. I dont have to explain what happens next. Its just total entertainment and as usual, hero's fight against terror and evils of the society. This movie is ofcourse one time watchable but not a wonderful concept.
Diwali 2011 has come to end with two leading actors in tamil Film industry delivering the best from their end. Its now upto us to decide which one is better.
