Their philosophy is ‘Some things are just worth doing’. We are glad that they did. The Dewarists is a 10 part Reality show / documentary about music and travel, showcasing artists from India (mostly) and overseas coming together and compose a song during the episode.
So what’s new or different than MTV’s Coke Studio or Unplugged? Firstly, You have to watch this not on a music channel but on STAR WORLD INDIA (Sundays 8:00 pm IST) & the show takes the musicians out on a journey into cities, towns and villages across the India. Personally it’s been a learning experience as I have been introduced to some great off the mainstream music. By the end of each show I find myself impulsively googling to find out more about the artist/s who were part of the show.
Minds Without Fear (Full Official Video) HD
It started off on the right note with Vishal, of the Vishal Shekhar duo whose latest offering was Ra.One & member of Pentagram, collaborated with ‘Imogen Heap’ to record the song ‘Minds Without Fear’ inspired by Rabindranath Tagore’s peom ‘Where the mind is without Fear’ and the episode 7 (aired 27/11/11) where Shubha Mudgal with Swarathma recorded ‘Duur Kinara’, a song about a river (kaveri) which also happens to be the subject of Swarathma’s most popular song ‘Pyaasi’. The season finale will feature Raghu Dixit, composer of Mujhse Fraandship Karoge or more popularly the founder of The Raghu Dixit Project, and Rewben Mashangva known as The King of Naga Folk Blues.
'Duur Kinara' by Shubha Mudgal & Swarathma
With already 7 episodes of the 10 part show over, this might be coming a little late to you. But there’s 3 more left in this season and we hope the producers of this show and STAR WORLD come out with another season of this delightful, soul touching, far from popular bollywood music. If you’ve missed it, you may watch all the episodes on the Youtube channel ‘The Dewarists’. or Star's website
I would like to Thank my friend Pavan Bhosle for enlightening me about this TV show and also contributing to this blog with this wonderful write up.
