Agneepath starring Hrithik Roshan and produced by Karan Johar's production house "Dharma productions" is a 2012 action movie directed by Karan Malhotra. The Movie cast and crew includes Sanjay Dutt, Rishi Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Om Puri and Zarina Wahab. This movie is a remake of 1990 Amitabh Starrer Blockbuster with the same title.
Story - Deenanath Chauhan (Chetan Pandit) is a School Master and the Most respected person in the village called Mandwa . He is a person who lives by his principles of doing good to people without expecting a return. He is married and has a Son Vijay Deenanath Chauhan. Mandwa village head's son Kancha Cheena (Sanjay Dutt) is into Drugs business and wants to make Mandwa the center of his Drug trade as the village is along the sea shore. He persuades the villagers to lease their land to him and pay them money in return. This is opposed by Master Deenanath Chauhan .Kancha Eliminates Master Deenanath Chauhan by hanging him in public and in front of his 12 year old Son Vijay Deenanath Chauhan (Vijay). Vijay grows up with only Revenge in mind and his only motive is to go back to Mandwa and Kill the Drug Lord Kancha Cheena.
Hrithk Roshan as Vijay Deenanath Chauhan was brilliant in portraying an Angry, enraged, revengeful youngman. After being in Film Industry for close to 12 years now, Lakshya, Fiza and Mission Kashmir were the only Hrithik Roshan films i liked watching. I have no words to describe his acting in this movie. You got to watch it to know how easily and sensibly the role was carried by Hrithik Roshan. Full marks to him.
Rishi Kapoor as Rauf lala, a Pimp and Drug Lord of Mumbai made a difficult role look so easy. He suits the bill well. After Hrithik Roshan, its Rauf lala you would never want to miss watching. A fabulous change over from his lover boy and Dad next door Image.
Sanjay Dutt as Kancha Cheena was a perfect choice. He does not have much screen space and his presence is felt only in the start and then in the climax.I did have a feeling that if people did exist like this in the 21st Century. Wearing a black gown and without eyebrows and live in a cave. This movie has completely redefined Kancha Cheena's character and Sanjay Dutt gives it a new lease of life. If your kid is not having Dinner tonight, just show him Kancha Cheena's picture and he will gobble down his share of food in a jiffy. Khal Nayak was his best movie ever. You can very well add this movie to his list of best performances. Kancha Cheena will henceforth be remembered as a ruthless Drug Lord.
The Story may be the same as the old one but the script is totally different. The role of Mithun da in the previous one was totally omitted here. After watching this, i now started to think if Mithun da was actually needed in the previous one. The way Karan Malhotra has scripted it, i must say he has done his homework well. By the looks of it, The scenes have come out the way he wanted it. I hope he goes on to give more hits. Karan Malhotra gets full marks again for his brilliant screenplay and direction.
This movie was very well supported by the background score. Indian movies mostly concentrate on songs and most of the times mess up the background score. An Action movie requires a racy background score to keep the momentum of audience ticking and expecting for more. This movie has got that. Ajay-Atul have scored a lot of songs in marathi and even the original Marathi song of Chikni Chameli is their own compilation in their marathi flick Jatra. They Scored music for Singham and now Agneepath. Singham was a blockbuster and Agneepath is on its way.
Agneepath in my view gets 4/5. Go watch it if you still haven't!
