The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn

Steven Spielberg is undoubtedly one of the most influential personalities in the film industry. He is also one of the best directors in Hollywood. He has produced a lot of movies and also won The most Prestigious Academy Awards for the Best Director.

The Adventure of Tin tin is another feather in his cap. This movie uses a brilliant new technique of filming, Motion Capture Animation (like the Na'vi tribe of Avatar). This will be a series like Harry potter and i am sure the Tin tin fans can expect more to come.

official Trailer

The movie starts with Tintin buying a model ship (unicorn) from a Market for a pound and does not know that it contains a part of the clue to discover the sunken treasure which was in the Secret Cargo of a ship named Unicorn. Mr. Sakharine is a collector of model ships comes in search of this one and offers Tintin whatever price he asks for. Tintin then realises that this ship has something in it and denies the offer made. Mr.Sakharine already owns One ship and has 1 part of the clue. The last Ship (3rd clue) is with an Arab merchant Omar Ben Salaad. These clues put together can be solved only by a haddock and can help find the treasure hidden by Sir Francis Haddock and who has left clues in 3 model ships(Ancestor of Captain Haddock), The captain of the ship Unicorn. The Adventure begins here and Sakharine and Tintin along with Snowy and Haddock go down to Bagghar to get this. As we all know, with lot of action packed sequences, tintin manages to unfold the hidden location which happens to be Marlinspike Hall. When Tintin and Haddock reach the location, they manage to find only a part of the treasure (A hat full of gold coins) and a clue to the location of Sunken Unicorn where the rest of the treasure is. The movie ends here and all we expect is A Sequel. :-)

The movie is released with both 2D and 3D versions. 3D version would be apt only if you take your kid along, else, not necessary. You might as well wait for a blueray print to come out. Not something which you will miss watching unless you are a Tintin fan. The background score of this movie is not racey and sometimes puts you to sleep. I yawned atleast 10 times in the 1st hour.

There is absolutely nothing stunning. If people say its awesome, stunning, well directed, well made blah blah blah its just because its a "Steven Spielberg" direction.

Rating: 3.5/5

  1. hey... a decent review Vivek, would appreciate if you could do your review with get more details like why did Spielberg take so long to direct a movie this or things that we might not be able to get to know easily.More of a dynamic review.

The film is definitely stunning from a animation per se, and not because it's a Spielberg release.

Love the review though, a nice to know that ur doing this.

Definitely the feedback is that review needs to add behind the cinema stuff, the narration of the story here is pointless as this movie is based on the book.

  3. At the outset let me say hats off to you for keeping the motivation alive in writing a blog. (I have registered a blog three months ago and still dont know how to start) The writing potential is something to be improved upon, but keeping in mind that this is your initial work, its a great start.

Motion Capture Animation however is not a new technigue, remember the movie Polar Express (Tom Hanks) that was made using the same technology.

The review felt all mixed up, coz u start by saying this is a feather in the cap, but end by saying its not all tht good. So need to check on that. But for a beginner u r doing great, a couple more reviews n writing n u will b great.

  5. Nice one Vivek ………….I was kind of disappointed really as nothing was really original except for the antagonist & to show off the animation in the crane fight scene (they merged ‘The Crab with the Golden Claws’ & ‘Secret of the Unicorn’) they even put the scene where the Thompsons fall off the stairs, Spielberg did direct a good rip-off as every scene is literally RIPPED OFF, The movie was good (for those who have no idea of Tintin) but not that good for four stars (-1 for originality), but for those who read the books and watched the animated series, get ready to curse a lot of ‘Blistering Barnacles’
