This movie comes in as 4th Installment of Mission Impossible series. The close knit Team with Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt, Paula Patton as Agent Carter, Simon Pegg as Benji and Jeremy Renner as Brandt are on a task of saving the world from a nuclear war to be started by the Scandinavian nuclear strategist turned terrorist Kirt hendricks code named cobolt played by Michael Nyqvist. They also work on clearing their (IMF) names after being falsely accused of bombing kremlin which was actually plotted and executed by Cobolt which had eventually led to disavowal of IMF by the United states government.
The movie starts off with a stunning action sequence just to prove its genre and ofcourse what the entire film is scripted to deliver. This movie does not cheat the action lovers even a bit and like all MI movies, its got swanky electronic gadgets and to top it all, Ethan hunt and his team , their intelligent quotient and daredevil acts. The movie has given some space for humour and Benji (Simon Pegg) takes the center stage. He is also a Tech savvy agent helping Ethan hunt.
Action sequences like Tom Cruise's escape from prison in Moscow and Scaling Burj Khalifa and chasing Cobolt in Sandstrom in Dubai have been shot brilliantly and use of IMAX camera in these sequences are evident. Ethan and his team go from Budapest to Moscow and then to Dubai and finally leading them to Mumbai India. Anil Kapoor steps in as a Telecom Billionaire who helps the Russian to launch nuclear missile by giving him space to run a state of the art data center. His onscreen appearance is just 4-5 minute and has a minimal say in the movie.
While everything has been fine till Dubai, The movie reaches its final Destination, INDIA. Tom Cruise and his team had erected a set in Vancouver, Canada and it had its own flaws from Left hand driven cars to a multi storey parking and Kannada hoardings in Mumbai showing the lack of detailing. When you are shooting a movie like this, you might as well travel down to the country and shoot for originality. Nevertheless, a good try.
The movie finally ends with a new beginning and its most likely the same team which will work for the next one.
The movie on the whole is worth watching and should not missed on big Screen. If you choose not to accept it, then wait for a blueray print and ensure you watch it on a 55" Screen. :-)
3 Cheers to Agent Ethan hunt and his team for keeping us on toes the entire 2 hours and 15 mins and giving us all action that we expected and in a timely manner.
Verdict: 3.5 out of 5. I would have chosen to give a 4, but the Sequences in so called India was a major let down.

machi,.,,,agree with this review in all terms,,,my entire confusion was whether it was sun studios Bnglr or Hyd or just a set cos,, I have seen the Udaya TV office near MG Road and not that big,,,,anyways I did love the movie on big screen at Satyam though
ReplyDeleteYa ralphie, thats where the detailing was screwed. They land in Mumbai and get into Sun TV office and everything from Caution board to advertisements were in kannada.. They should have done their homework properly for Indian sequence. They might as well showed it as landing in bangalore and fixed it all...
