The Dirty Picture - Review

The Movie as everyone knows is about the Sultry siren of yesteryear Silk Smitha. The movie talks about the rise to fame of a village girl Reshma (Vidya Balan a.k.a Silk) and her subsequent downfall.

Silk Smitha was unstoppable in the 80's. She Normally appeared in one song or sometimes in character roles. She has also done a splendid job in movies which demanded acting skills and no exposure like Alaigal Oivadillai and Moondram Pirai. However, her main identity was on screen exposure and men drooling over her appearance.

The Dirty Picture theatrical Trailer

This movie not only shows her lifestyle but also candidly speaks about the Exploits of film industry and how this woman boldly handles the situations and with ease.

A producer, Desperately seeking a hit recognises the starlet in a Ambitious Village girl Reshma (Vidya Balan). He rechristens her as Silk and introduces her to his movie. From then on with the help of star actor Surya Kant (naseeruddin Shah) and ofcourse with her sexual charm both onscreen and offscreen, she rises to fame, the fame which becomes a potential threat to Suryakant's Stardom, he decides to cut her wings. Consequences of which leads her to produce a movie to rise back to fame and then face death as ultimate trial because of debts.

Very Famous Song from Tamil Movie featuring Silk Smitha

The way movie is promoted is not what it is. Director Milan Luthria does a great job in bringing the life of a sex symbol on screen. He has crafted the movie in such a way that it does not portray vulgarity. The film has everything you ask for right from smooching scenes to physical intimacy. The dialogues in the movie have a punch. Something like "Tuning karne ayi hoon Sir, Thab hi tho band bajegi na" when Vidya Balan meets Naseer in his room for a conversation gets you off seat.Scene where Silk (Vidya Balan) gets an award and addresses the crowd is my favorite.

Naseeruddin Shah as ageing superstar down south is hilarious in his heroics and viciously Manipulative.
Tushaar Kapoor's role is decent and effective
Emran Hashmi as Director who hates Silk but eventually falls in love with her has done a good job.Better than any male artist in this movie.

Vidya Balan, has done a great job in bringing the role back to life. She does absolute justice in playing her part to perfection. She indeed makes dirty picture a beautiful experience.

  2. Some Say Naseer's character is derived from Vinu Chakravarthy (Silk's god father) and some say its Rajnikanth, But i would say, Immaterial. Its just Vidya balan's acting and the way story is taken ahead makes a difference.
